Step into a pivotal role in the education and training sector by mastering the art of outcomes-based assessment. This generic assessor program is designed to equip you with the skills to confidently assess learners against specified criteria using pre-designed assessment instruments.

By achieving this standard, you will learn how to conduct assessments that are fair, valid, reliable, and practicable. You will also develop a deep understanding of how to perform assessments that are entirely free of bias and discrimination, with a special focus on redress for race, gender, and disability. Ultimately, this program empowers you to contribute meaningfully to qualifications within the fields of Education Training and Development Practices and Human Resource Development.

Who Should Attend?

  • Subject matter experts looking to conduct assessments within their specific fields of expertise.
  • Professionals working within Education Training and Development Practices or Human Resource Development.
  • Individuals who wish to assess people for their achievement of learning outcomes in diverse environments.

What You Will Learn (Learning Outcomes)

  • Understand Outcomes-Based Assessment: Demonstrate a clear understanding of the philosophies, advantages, and disadvantages of outcomes-based assessment compared to other forms of assessment.
  • Prepare for Assessments: Efficiently organize and prepare resources, documentation, venues, and schedules to ensure fairness and safety.

Entry Requirements

  • No previous assessment experience is required to begin learning towards this unit standard.
  • You must possess evaluative expertise within the specific area of learning in which you intend to assess.

Assessment & Certification

To be awarded this unit standard, you must prove your ability to assess effectively. You will be required to carry out at least two assessments. While one of these may be a simulated assessment to cover typical scenarios, at least one must involve a real candidate in a real assessment situation. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to gather sufficient evidence to make consistent, reliable, and fair judgments, including accommodating candidates with special needs and navigating Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) situations.

Career Opportunities

  • Registered Assessor: Conduct valid and fair assessments within your specific field of evaluative expertise.
  • Education and Training Specialist: Contribute to the achievement of various qualifications within the Education Training and Development (ETD) sector.
  • Human Resource Development Professional: Enhance workplace skills programs by bringing formal assessment capabilities in-house.
