Fleet Management Fundamentals introduces the basic principles and practices of fleet management in the workplace. Delegates learn how vehicles, drivers, daily operations, technology and compliance requirements are coordinated to support safe, efficient and cost-effective fleet operations. The programme is practical and built around South African workplace scenarios, so it applies across any industry or organisation that uses vehicles in its daily operations.

What You Will Learn (Learning Outcomes)

On completion, delegates will be able to:
  • Explain what fleet management is, why it matters, and how vehicles, drivers, and operational decisions are connected.
  • Apply basic vehicle scheduling, dispatch, and record-keeping principles to coordinate daily fleet activities.
  • Identify key fleet cost drivers, calculate cost per kilometre, and explain how fuel monitoring and maintenance support cost control.
  • Describe common fleet technologies and explain how fleet data supports monitoring, safety, and decision-making.
  • Explain basic compliance requirements under the National Road Traffic Act and identify common safety and operational risks.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. Delegates should be able to read and write in English and do basic calculations. Delegates with limited direct fleet exposure may draw on previous work, public transport or community transport experience.

Assessment & Certification

Assessment is formative and practical. Delegates complete guided activities in the Learner Workbook and apply each module to a workplace that uses vehicles. Group discussion, case studies, scenario analysis and knowledge checks are used in every module, and different answers are accepted where they show sound workplace reasoning.
